1. People's Congress IN SUPPORT OF Palestine |
Wim De Ceukelaire (PHM Belgium) and Juliette Mattijsen (PHM Netherlands) represented People’s Health Movement (PHM) in the People’s Congress for the Hague Group for Palestine held on March 6th and 7th, 2026 in Amsterdam. The Hague Group, Progressive International, and the Boycott Divest Sanctions movement had called for a People’s Congress in Amsterdam. This meeting was co-chaired by the Republic of South Africa and the Republic of Colombia. The People’s Congress took place in recognition that the Nakba is ongoing and sustained by a global architecture of complicity, embedded in weapons systems, supply chains, ports, trade, finance, and the political protection offered by states and institutions. PHM was present to represent its Palestinian and also founding members, most notably the Health Work Committees (HWC – West Bank), Al Awda Health and Community Association (AWDA - Gaza) and the Palestinian Medical Relief Society (both in the West Bank and Gaza). PHM contributed to the Congress calls to action, and called for collaboration on: direct support for our Palestinian members and colleagues, documenting Violations on the Right to Health in Palestine, the Boycott of TEVA, and of the Israeli Medical Association and ‘Israeli’ knowledge institutions, and sharing efforts toward joining the Global Sumud Flotilla, and in advocacy at the high-level UN and WHO meetings. 2. March against 50 years of the installation of the dictatorship in Argentina- Never again! |
Friends from Argentina joined marches on March 24, 2026, against 50 years of the installation of the dictatorship in the country. "Fifty years after the coup, memory is not the past:
it is a practice of collective care.
The scars remain on our bodies and in our communities.
Community organizing transforms them.
Memory is health.

See PHM Southern region's Instagram post on this- https://www.instagram.com/p/DWQEAKajkzU/ On March 24, 1976, a military coup in Argentina overthrew President Isabel Perón, initiating a brutal dictatorship known as the "National Reorganization Process" that lasted until 1983. Led initially by junta members Jorge Videla, Emilio Massera, and Orlando Agosti, the regime engaged in systematic terror, causing an estimated 30,000 disappearances and deaths. The dictatorship ended only in December 1983. |
3. Internal update from PHM’s Latin American regional thematic circle on Food and Nutrition sovereignty |
PHM works on six priority themes, and they coincide with our six global thematic circles. Some of these active circles also have their regional circles. One of the thematic circles is on Food and Nutrition Sovereignty. On January 19, 2026, a meeting of the PHM's Latin American Circle on Nutrition and Food Sovereignty was held, during which, among other things, it was decided to establish a new leadership structure for the Circle. Earlier, Marcos Filardi from Museo del hambre/ Hunger Museum had led the circle in the Latin America region. He has now been replaced by Gerardo Segovia, representing the southern subregion “Julio Monsalvo”, Graciela Stornini de Almeida, representing the Brazil subregion and Miriam Bac, representing the “Mesoamerica” subregion. |
4. Jan Swasthya Abhiyan/ PHM India statement critiquing the proposed Transgender Persons Amendment Bill 2026 |
Jan Swasthya Abhiyan/ PHM India released a powerful statement critiquing the proposed Transgender Persons Amendment Bill 2026 by the Indian parliament. These proposed amendments are deeply problematic since they would dismantle the principle of self-determination of gender identity, while imposing mandatory medical verification, and would reverse important recognition of the rights, dignity, and autonomy of transgender and gender diverse people. 5. Online International People’s Health University course for the Latin American and Caribbean region |
The first session of the 2nd online International People’s Health University course for the Latin American and Caribbean region commenced on 25th March 2026. We saw interest from 20 countries of the region, including Uruguay, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Panama. Over 100 students joined the course on PHM priority themes as outlined below. We finished the first session in solidarity with Cuba and slogans of Viva Cuba!- https://phmovement.org/online-course-international-peoples-health-university-young-health-activists-latin-america The International People’s Health University (IPHU) is a programme of PHM that aims to contribute to ‘health for all’ by strengthening people’s health movements around the globe, by organising and resourcing learning, sharing and planning opportunities for people’s health activists, particularly from the Global South. |
6. Solidarity in Action: €263,000 Raised to Defend Health in Palestine |
The PHM Global campaign to support the Palestinian healthcare system has successfully concluded, raising an impressive €263,000 thanks to the solidarity of individuals, grassroots groups, and partner organizations worldwide! In the face of genocide, ethnic cleansing, destruction, blockade, and systematic attacks on healthcare, this collective effort stands as a clear political statement: a refusal to accept that access to health can be denied, and a shared determination to defend the right to health for the Palestinian people! 7. A manifesto for psychosocial work in times of social breakdown |
Sharing the manifesto below hosted by our partner organisation Medico International. In light of authoritarian shifts around the world, escalating wars and growing violence, many of us working in psychosocial care are faced with an urgent question: How can we maintain our stance and act in solidarity under these conditions? Against this backdrop, more than 20 partner organisations and individuals from different regions of the world have initiated the manifesto: ‘Resist! Connect! Rise up!’ – A manifesto for psychosocial work in times of social breakdown. The psychosocial manifesto formulates the joint analysis and stance that we, as psychosocial organisations, professionals and activists from four continents, have developed in response to violence, social polarisation and the erosion of international norms. At the same time, it is an invitation to network internationally and to make the emancipatory power of psychosocial work visible. We would therefore like to cordially invite you to support the manifesto as an organisation or individual, to forward it and to sign it if you can identify with its basic ideas. 9. Silence on genocide at the World Conference on Bioethics |
Between Nov 24 and Nov 27, 2025, the International Chair in Bioethics held its 17th World Conference on Bioethics, Medical Ethics, and Health Law in Ljubljana, Slovenia.1 Despite being hosted in a nation whose President has vocally condemned the “genocide in Gaza” at the UN, the conference stood in stark contrast to its setting.2 No scheduled sessions discussed the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe, representing a profound disconnect between the event's location and its content. Last bulletin by our sister publication People's Health Dispatch on "No to War". As the United States and Israel launched new illegal attacks on Iran at the end of February, healthcare in West Asia remains a key concern for global health movements. Many of these movements have already condemned the assault on Iran, emphasizing the risks posed by potential destruction of nuclear facilities. They have also drawn parallels between the destruction of medical centers in Iran and the targeting of Gaza's health system throughout the genocide. |

1. Congreso Popular EN APOYO A Palestina |
Wim De Ceukelaire y Juliette Mattijsen representaron al Movimiento Popular por la Salud (PHM) @globalphm en el Congreso Popular del Grupo de La Haya por Palestina, celebrado los días 6 y 7 de marzo de 2026 en Ámsterdam. El Grupo de La Haya, la Internacional Progresista y el movimiento Boicot, Desinversión y Sanciones habían convocado un Congreso Popular en Ámsterdam. Esta reunión fue copresidida por la República de Sudáfrica y la República de Colombia. El Congreso Popular se llevó a cabo en reconocimiento de que la Nakba sigue en curso y se sustenta en una arquitectura global de complicidad, arraigada en los sistemas de armamento, las cadenas de suministro, los puertos, el comercio, las finanzas y la protección política que ofrecen los Estados y las instituciones. PHM estuvo presente para representar a sus miembros palestinos y también a sus miembros fundadores, entre los que destacan los Comités de Trabajo Sanitario (HWC – Cisjordania), la Asociación de Salud y Comunidad Al Awda (AWDA – Gaza) y la Sociedad Palestina de Socorro Médico (tanto en Cisjordania como en Gaza). PHM contribuyó a los llamamientos a la acción del Congreso y pidió colaboración en: el apoyo directo a nuestros miembros y colegas palestinos, la documentación de las violaciones del derecho a la salud en Palestina, el boicot a TEVA, a la Asociación Médica Israelí y a las instituciones de conocimiento «israelíes», y la puesta en común de esfuerzos para sumarse a la Flotilla Global Sumud, así como en la incidencia política en las reuniones de alto nivel de la ONU y la OMS. 2. Marcha contra los 50 años de la instauración de la dictadura en Argentina: ¡Nunca más! |
Amigos de Argentina se unieron a las marchas del 24 de marzo de 2026 contra los 50 años de la instauración de la dictadura en el país. «Cincuenta años después del golpe, la memoria no es el pasado: es una práctica de cuidado colectivo. Las cicatrices permanecen en nuestros cuerpos y en nuestras comunidades. La organización comunitaria las transforma. La memoria es salud. 30 000 presentes. Ahora y siempre». Dirigido inicialmente por los miembros de la junta Jorge Videla, Emilio Massera y Orlando Agosti, el régimen llevó a cabo un terror sistemático, causando unas 30 000 desapariciones y muertes. 3. Actualización interna del círculo temático regional latinoamericano de PHM sobre soberanía alimentaria y nutricional |
PHM trabaja en seis temas prioritarios, que coinciden con la existencia de seis círculos temáticos. Algunos de estos círculos activos también cuentan con sus círculos regionales. Uno de los círculos temáticos se centra en la soberanía alimentaria y nutricional. El 19 de enero se celebró una reunión del Círculo Latinoamericano del MSP sobre Nutrición y Soberanía Alimentaria, durante la cual, entre otras cosas, se decidió establecer una nueva estructura de liderazgo para el Círculo. Anteriormente, Marcos Filardi, del Museo del hambre/ Hunger Museum, había liderado el círculo en la región de América Latina. Ahora ha sido sustituido por Gerardo Segovia, en representación de la subregión sur «Julio Monsalvo», Graciela Stornini de Almeida, en representación de la subregión de Brasil, y Miriam Bac, en representación de la subregión «Mesoamérica». |
4. Declaración de Jan Swasthya Abhiyan/PHM India criticando el proyecto de ley de enmienda sobre las personas transgénero de 2026 |
Jan Swasthya Abhiyan/PHM India publicó una contundente declaración en la que critica el proyecto de ley de enmienda sobre personas transgénero de 2026 presentado por el Parlamento indio. Estas enmiendas propuestas son profundamente problemáticas, ya que desmantelarían el principio de autodeterminación de la identidad de género, al tiempo que impondrían una verificación médica obligatoria, y revertirían el importante reconocimiento de los derechos, la dignidad y la autonomía de las personas transgénero y de género diverso. 5. Curso en línea de la Universidad Internacional de Salud Popular para la región de América Latina y el Caribe |
La primera sesión del 2.º curso en línea de la Universidad Internacional de Salud Popular para la región de América Latina y el Caribe comenzó el 25de marzo de 2026. Observamos interés por parte de 20 países de la región, entre ellos Uruguay, Haití, la República Dominicana y Panamá. Más de 100 estudiantes se unieron al curso sobre los temas prioritarios del PHM que se describen a continuación. Compartimos el siguiente manifiesto publicado por nuestra organización asociada Medico International. A la luz de los giros autoritarios en todo el mundo, la escalada de guerras y el aumento de la violencia, muchos de los que trabajamos en la atención psicosocial nos enfrentamos a una pregunta urgente: ¿Cómo podemos mantener nuestra postura y actuar en solidaridad bajo estas condiciones? En este contexto, más de 20 organizaciones asociadas y personas de diferentes regiones del mundo han iniciado el manifiesto: «¡Resistir! ¡Conectarse! ¡Levantarse!» – Un manifiesto para el trabajo psicosocial en tiempos de colapso social. El manifiesto psicosocial formula el análisis y la postura conjuntos que nosotros, como organizaciones psicosociales, profesionales y activistas de cuatro continentes, hemos desarrollado en respuesta a la violencia, la polarización social y la erosión de las normas internacionales. 9. Silencio sobre el genocidio en la Conferencia Mundial sobre Bioética |
Entre el 24 y el 27 de noviembre de 2025, la Cátedra Internacional de Bioética celebró su 17.ª Conferencia Mundial sobre Bioética, Ética Médica y Derecho Sanitario en Liubliana, Eslovenia.1 A pesar de celebrarse en un país cuyo presidente ha condenado abiertamente el «genocidio en Gaza» ante la ONU, la conferencia contrastó radicalmente con su entorno. 2 Ninguna de las sesiones programadas abordó la catástrofe humanitaria en curso, lo que representó una profunda desconexión entre la ubicación del evento y su contenido.
